Hot running

Evening runs in Florida suck. Sorry to be so blunt, but they do. I much rather get up at 5:15 am to go run. Due to fireman's schedule, that is not always possible. Running at 7:30pm is no fun. It is still hot out. I feel like I run much slower in the evening. Anyone else have this problem?
Tuesday, my daugther wanted to run with me so we set out to run the local parking lot at an Elementary school. She managed to trip and fall. Luckily she was okay. That is one of my biggest fears! Tripping and falling! Injury is never good.
At least the sky was pretty, even though my run was not.

Wine & Dine is creeping up! 67 days away! I am starting to get nervous about it. This is normal I hope! I still have to finish up our costumes. Fun times to be had!

On another note, I think I need to buy my fireman his own SPIbelt. He keeps stealing mine for his runs. Then says he doesn't need one. Whatever! He does need one!

Here's to hoping it cools down soon!

End of August update

Sorry I've been quiet and not keeping up with my blog. August is a hectic month (I'm sure it is for many). With getting kids ready for back to school, supply and cloth shopping I feel like the month slipped away from me. Plus I turned 31 this month! More about that later. I have logged over 25 miles this month and did another 10k over the weekend. My half marathon is slowly creeping up on me!

I now have a 6th grader and a 2nd grader! I'm not sure when that happened, but it did. My babies are no longer babies and my baby is becoming a toddler! Time needs to slow down! Everyone is settled into their school routine. ( my 6th grader is having a little trouble with her locker but I think that is all newbies).
I transferred my 2nd grader to a new school this year and he loves it and adjusted just fine. I was worried about it. Now it's just me and the baby during the day. Lots of play time and tea time! She loves her tea set!

31 is new the 20! I feel wonderful and healthy! I'm at a good weight and eating right (with the occasional cheat day).  Soda free for 6 months now! I never thought I would make it that far. Pepsi calls my name but I refuse to give in. I am stronger than I give myself credit for! I spent my birthday, also the last day of summer break by the pool with my loves. Life is good!

I got a new bikini, I no longer fear shopping for one. I can't tell you the last time I was excited to shop for one. My hard work and dedication has not only paid off but it has given me a new found confidence.
I still need to do more toning work. I'll get there.  For now, here's to turning 31!

Last Saturday our local MRTT group held our summer virtual race. I went early to do a 10k. Fabulous and I did a nice early morning run. It wasn't to hot yet and it was actually quite nice out.
I feel very lucky to be able to witness something so amazing!  What a sight!
I am grateful that I was able to run 6.2 miles and that I didn't do any walking. Running truly is a gift. I am going to enjoy running for as long as I am able to run.
Our medals are pretty awesome! Super cute and I love the colors!
I had a blast doing it. I love my MRTT group! So nice to have such supportive runners. Best of all is sharing it with my 2 favorites, Fabulous and Sisnlaw! I am a lucky runner!

I love running!

One last note, I received my email to be a Girls Gone Sporty Ambassador! I am so excited to be a part of it!

August is here!

August is here already! I can't believe it. I turn 31 this month, the kids go back to school, but most of important of all is I am a month closer to my first half marathon. Unreal.
It's been raining a lot here in the sunshine state so running has been tricky. I've ran in the rain a few times and It's not so bad. It's the lightning that I give up in. This past Sunday my Sisnlaw and I did 5.7 miles. It rained a little bit on us but it was refreshing!
I have been trying to stretch better. I found some new stretches and my legs seem happy with them.

Stretch, stretch, stretch!

Another new thing I am trying before going out for a run is taking a spoonful of honey. Yes.. honey. It's a little odd to get down.. but I am managing. I have been reading about the benefits of honey and running. While I have been researching, Fabulous brought it to my attention that she was starting honey. We really are two peas in a pod!  Back to honey. Honey is great for a running fuel. It can be absorbed easily and provides a great source of energy. You can read more about it here : http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/nutrition/honey-the-facts/5285.html

I'm sure August is going to blow by just like July did, hopefully I can find time to blog a little more!
Fingers crossed!

Royal Family 5K 2015

I did it! Yup! Signed up!  Mostly for my daughter. She was so upset to hear that I hadn't signed us up for the 5k. She was in tears. I told her it was sold out. Oops... What a nice Christmas surprise it will be! I am excited for her! She loves running and I am so glad to share the same love for it. Because of her, I ran my fastest 5K at last years Royal Family 5K. Let's see what 2015 brings! But for now, I have to think of costume ideas!

Training is going good. I ran last week at a friends house on their treadmill. Got in at 10pm and said I need to run. Being out of town and still being able to train was a win situation.

This week however isn't starting so well.. I think I am fighting off my daughter's stomach bug that she had last week. I have had an upset stomach and pain, but nothing more. (thank goodness). Lots of water and rest right now... which is killing me. Training calls!

A friend has asked for me to do an outline of stretches that I do.. I suppose I shall work on that now while the baby is asleep. More to come.

Training Has Started, Plus A Trail Adventure!

Training for my FIRST ever half started last week. I will say I actually feel pretty good about it. That might be a little bit of a crazy thought, but I no longer feel nervous. When I first signed up for Wine & Dine I wasn't even able to do a 10K. I have come a long way. My furthest distance to date is 7 miles and knowing I can do that helps ease the feeling of being unsure.
I am trying to find my groove with the Galloway training plan. I am not use to interval training. I dreaded intervals when I first got back into running. Now that I run 3 miles easy, walking every few minutes seems to drag on. Anyone have suggestions? I welcome them!

Yesterday morning Fabulous and I decided to try our first ever trail run. Ha! We agreed to walk it first time through to get a feel... but there were several trails that broke off into different paths and I will say.. I am one for getting lost, very easily. Walking it was! We saw some pretty cool plants and such. Lizards scared us and made us jump more times than I can count! No lie! Spiderwebs. Yup I surely got an arm workout from flailing my arms every few steps because of the webs. Fun stuff. NOT! The animal prints in the sand were pretty neat to see, not so much the snake prints though. The view was pretty too.
While walking our way back I sneezed. I looked up and to my left was a brown fuzzy creature running away from us. I was like what was that! Fabulous heard the bushes moving and set off running! We got back to main trail pretty quick! I can laugh about it now. Although at the moment it wasn't so funny. Fabulous thinks it was a hog. Probably was too. Needless to say that was the end of our trail adventure!
Maybe in the future we will attempt it again.. after I do some research on trails!  But for now it will serve as fun memory, something the two of us will be able to laugh about over and over again. Do you and your running buddy have funny stories? I'd love to hear them!!

July goals

Ya I know it's the 7th.. but it's never to late to discuss goals for the month.

  • Goal 1:

My 1/2 marathon training started  today. I am doing Jeff Galloway's Wine and Dine 1/2 training plan. My goal is to stay on track with this training plan and not fall behind. I know I will have to alter some days due to fireman's schedule and that is okay, but falling behind is not okay. I need to stay on track, it's a way to keep me motivated.

  • Goal 2:

Cross train more.
I have slowly jumped back into weight training and working on toning my body. With that on my off days from running, it will be cross training. I have started buying weights, etc to build my own home gym so that should be motivation enough.. right?

  • Goal 3:

DRINK MORE WATER! I pretty much only drink water, coffee, and the occasional glass of wine. I drink water through out the day, but I know I need to up my water intake.

3 goals for July.. not to hard right?! I can do this!!

June recap

It's the first day of July! Can you believe it? Already!!
I didn't finish the June 100 mile challenge. However, I am happy that I worked towards it. I knew going in it would be a lot for me. Especially when I barely hit 25 miles a month. I tried and worked towards it and that is what counts. Right? Right! My  ending goal was 39.6 miles. I am very proud of myself for making it as far as I did. I still feel new to the running world. (although I have been running on and off since 2011, Since Jan. I have made it a habit to not give up).
I was glad to be able to wake up bright and early and run before the sun. I was happy to have my running buddy's with me to run. No lonely runs here.
I am grateful that my mind and my body allow me to run and that neither has failed me yet!
There are days where I will get in a funk, but having a wonderful support group keeps me motivated to keep running. I love you all who support my wild, exciting journey.
Here's to July!!
