10K Complete!

Image
My first 10K is done! I did it! It's over! Completed! Finished!
I am still in a bit of shock that I completed it. I completed it in good time too! My time was 1:07:43. My goal was an hour and I was only 7 minutes over. I am beyond pleased with those results. 4th Place in my age group! I'm allowed to brag right?! I think so! My sister in law placed 3rd! And fireman placed 1st in his age group. I am so proud of us all! (of course fireman would place 1st. He's good like that)!
The run was pretty good. Running along the boardwalk to the beach was beautiful until the turn around, then I had to run against the wind. That sucked, not even going to lie about it. I had to walk a little bit ( I counted to 15, then started to run again). Even with a little walking I maintained a really great pace. Once I was off the boardwalk It took a few to get back into pace, but I did it!

I finished strong. Fabulous waited at the finish line with a bright pink sign; she knows my color. Happy tears came! I couldn't believe I was finishing a 10K and my best friend was there to run along the side lines with me! Fireman and sisnlaw were also there cheering me through! What a happy finish for me!
Determination has paid off. I've been inspired by Fabulous. Motivated by my family and friends. I won't quit. I will keep running. I will continue to be inspired, to be motivated.
I love running now. Running is happiness and I am a very happy runner.

10K Coming Up

I've been quiet this week. Disney called and I answered. It was a much needed Disney get away with my family. Now back to reality.
I run my first 10K tomorrow! I am very anxious, yet excited about it. I am trying not to think to much about it though. I won't be able to sleep tonight.
Some of my worries:
Will there be enough water stops. (Seriously I am worried about this). LOL
What if I don't finish? (Yes I worry about this too).
What if I go off course? (I tend to get lost often, so it's only fair that this is on my mind when running).
Now that I have gotten my worries off my chest I am going to attempt sleep. Wish me luck.

Transformation Tuesday

Since I have started running again in Jan. I have lost weight.. I didn't realize it at first, but I am down to 119 lbs. I was in the 130's prior. Running and eating better. that's what did it. And here's just what I did.
1. We cut out fast food. we haven't had any MCD, BK, etc since June 2013.
2. We stopped eating ice cream every night. (frowny face, but hey it makes a difference).
3. Gave up artificial coffee creamer. (no lie was hard at first.. but now the taste of it grosses me out).
4. No more soda!!! Fireman gave it up too. (he has lost a total of 30 lbs).
5. Cutting out processed foods. We haven't gone 100% on this, but I would save 85% right now. We are slowly but surely getting there.
6. We love water!!! ( buy an infusion pitcher, or any pitcher really and throw fruit in it for some flavor).
7. Water therapy in the morning. Drink a large glass before doing anything! Wake up your body the right way!
8. We run weekly. I do anywhere from 1-3 miles weekly sometimes more.
9. Exercise in the shower! (yup, I do my wall sits, squats, side bends, and a few others while showering).
10. We allow for a cheat day every now and then.
That's it on my transformation so far. It hasn't been an easy transition, but finally seeing results, means no turning back. Plus our children are adapting better habits, although they may not like their veggies some nights, I just tell them "it's okay if they don't like them, but they still need to eat them". It's working so far. Fingers crossed!!

Week In Review

This has been a crazy week. Such as the life of a fire wife.
Monday, my son had baseball practice at the elem. school and I usually run the parking lot to get my miles in. Fireman was also on shift, so that meant pushing the baby in the jogger, (no fun). I got about half a mile in before she started screaming, twisting, and kicking in her seat. So much for my motivation and my run. Baby won that round.
Tuesday evening after dinner I told fireman I was going running. Went to the river and did a 5k. I was hoping to improve time (and I did by 6 seconds), but felt sick the whole time. Maybe I shouldn't have ate dinner before. However, I pushed through the entire run. I did it. No quitting.
The rest of the week was no fun, I've been battling some neck pain. I had to visit the Dr. to find out what is going on, so I am now working on correcting my neck issues. Good news, I can still run! YAY!
Today, I would like to run. Fireman is on shift and I am certain all 3 kids will be so much fun to run with!

Cutting Out The Sweets

Since I got my motivation back, Fireman and I have been eating healthier. Let me rephrase that, we eat pretty good most days. We don't do fast food. It's pretty gross. We don't keep soda in our home, things like that. We eat pretty balanced meals, but we're aiming to clean eat better.
One of our big cheats was ice cream every night after the kids went down. We would have a small bowl and discuss how our day was. It's something we have done for years. I didn't think it would be on our "cut off" list. IT WAS.
It's been about 2, 3 weeks since we stopped buying ice cream. At first I thought I was going to go insane without my late night snack. And some nights I do crave it. How do I deal? I bought Hershey's  sugar free chocolate syrup. (not the kind with Splenda, that is gross too). Plain sugar free syrup. I add some to milk and have a nice glass of chocolate milk.  It's helping me deal. I don't make it every night, only when I am craving my snack. I can do this!
That my friends is my little bit of food advice for the night. What is your go to item when craving sweets, junk food, etc??

Love For Running

I get  most of my motivation from Fabulous (check out her blog http://loveforrun.wordpress.com/ )  She has been my inspiration in running since day 1. She is the reason I run. Without her demanding, pushy words I would not run. EVER. So today I would like to do a shout out to her and Wish Fabulous a huge THANK YOU!
You can follow us both on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/loveforrunning  (I help manage the page).
Everyone has down days in running.. it's having someone who inspires you to keep going that makes it all worth it!

Working On A 10K

Monday, I ran. Got 5 miles in. 5 very hot miles. I felt great after mile 2, the rest... wasn't so great, but I ran forward. While I ran my first 3 miles, 4 and 5 had a combo of walking and running, mostly running though so I am happy about that progress. I just kept telling myself I could finish. I was determined to do 5 miles and I did it. That's all that matters! I can do this and it isn't so hard. Now let me tell you about after my run....
Yup came home showered, ate dinner and crashed! I have never felt so drained before. Not even after a sleepless night with a newborn. Thank goodness fireman was home to put kiddos to bed. (He was also in the parking lot while I ran.. he sat on his bum). I know crashing like that was my own fault. I didn't drink enough water. Note.. drink lots of water! I definitely did not. I am still feeling it a little bit today. On that note, it's safe to say that today is a rest day!

I did 5 miles. I can do this.
