MRTT Winter Virtual 5k 2015

This was my second year of doing the MRTT Winter Virtual race. I love my local running chapter!
This was also my first run since seeing a chiropractor and having him adjust my ankles in hopes to be pain free while running.
I was looking forward to this run. WAS. I was going to do the 5k and planned for a 10k if my knee allowed it. However, my knee had other plans.

It was a very cold morning for Florida! We bundled up.

Do you like my beanie?! I scored it for a dollar! Hey... whatever keeps me warm! Plus I am wearing Mary Kay makeup. More on that later!

My run started out good with Fabulous.  I was excited and feeling great. The cool air is was refreshing. Then at about 1.5 miles in the pain hit. I walked, stretched. Pain seemed to go away so I started a slow run. The pain came back. I started walking again. I was getting mad. I took 4 weeks off to prepare for this run. I rested. I started the run walk stretch method over and over. The pain eased a little around 2 miles and I did some slow pace run / fast walk to try to keep my pace time somewhat decent.
Fabulous called my cell. She knew when I didn't arrive a few minutes after her that something was up. She told me she would run back to meet me. It was after I hung up with her that I allowed myself to shed a few tears. Frustration. Anger. Sadness. But only for a minute.
Fabulous came up and gave me a big hug! I needed it. It's a reminder that all runners love each other. We're in it for the same reasons.
I finished my 5k in 43 minutes. Not my best time, I finished. That's all that matters. I could have given up at mile 1.5 but I didn't. I kept on.
The end result was worth it. I got this medal and it sparkles! What is better?!
I do have an appointment with an Orthopedist in 2 weeks. I'm counting down. I will find answers and a solution.
And yes I was wearing makeup for my race! I'm a Mary Kay beauty consultant. Mary Kay CC Cream is a great option for those wanting to wear makeup and workout / run! I love it!!

My next 5k is Friday. I see a lot of walking... Disney's PHM weekend I'll see you soon!

2015 Starting off rough

My goals for 2015 are looking a little cloudy right now. And that is never a good sign. I need to see the sunshine again.

At the end of my half marathon in November, I had some knee pain. I took a month off of running, did a cross country 5k with my son in December. The knee pain came back. By that evening I was on ice because of the pain. A few days later no pain, nothing. I went to our local running store, bought new shoes with stability. Did 2 short runs just to feel it out. No pain. I was beginning to think my shoes were just old and they were the reason for my pain. Almost..

Sunday, I went for a late afternoon run and by mile 2.5 I was in pain. The whole run I was doing a walk/ run method, but it turned out to be more walking than running. I was beyond annoyed. By mile 2.7 I couldn't run, every time I tried the pain was there and it felt like my knee was locking up. I was angry.
I am still angry, along with sad. We were just discussing which future Disney race to sign up for and now I may not be signing up for anything.  It makes me sad to think about future races.
We are looking into sports medicine doctors that take our insurance at the moment. I don't know what else to do. This cannot be the end of running for me.
My time was okay still. Not sure how, but I managed 3 miles in 37:34.

Hopefully my next post will be a happier one.

Bad Run Day

They say not all runs are good runs. This is very true. Yesterday's run was not good. At all. It was hot; (nothing new, I have pretty much adjusted to it).  However, I just couldn't get into the groove of my run. I felt off. Then after 20 minutes of running I started to get like a tingling sensation in my knee. It wasn't painful but tingling. I had to stop and walk a few times from that point on. I thought about just stopping and saying screw it and then of course the tingling would go away. Figures right? I would start back up running and within a bit, the tingling would come back. (it felt like as if my leg was asleep). It was very annoying! I finally started walking and said I'm done, there is no point. I checked my Nike app and I was at 27 minutes.  That's when I told myself I was going to finish my run. I had set out for a 30 minute run. I was going to finish it.  I ended up doing 32 minutes. My distance was below the normal, but I finished my run. Finished. It wasn't my best run. I didn't even like it, couldn't stand it. It's done though.  I didn't even stop to take a picture that's how over it I was. Now I'm past it and moving forward.
Today is rest day. I'm going to enjoy it too. My body needs a break.

Who else has bad runs?

I found this quote, I need to remember it.
